NOVUS

Novus

13 singles in the German Top 50, seven of those in the official German Top 20 single sales charts, more than 5 million records sold worldwide, numerous music awards and an appearance on the Chinese “Wetten Dass..?!” TV programme before an audience of over 580 million people:

Now celebrating 10 years existence as a band Groove Coverage are starting 2012 as one of the most successful European dance formations. Who could have imagined it back in 2001?!

Let’s start from the beginning:

On 07.11.1976 in a Bavarian monastery in Germany – appropriately - DJ NOVUS, a little star, was born.

In 1995, inspired by various rave parties in Munich, he started his DJ career within the four cellar walls of his parental home – much to the “decibel-technical” annoyance of his parents.
Known under his pseudonym “Novus” (Latin for “new”) he rapidly cast a spell on the regional crowds with his “Hands-up-Party Trance”. In the late 90’s he organized the first big raves in Bavaria and generated (unknowingly during an interview at the time) the term for today’s musical style “Handz-UP”.

In cooperation with his long-standing friend and colleague, Axel Konrad, the project “Groove Coverage” was founded overnight in summer 2001 by Markus (DJ Novus) and Axel Konrad in the then small Suprime Music studio. Armed with a major recording contract they dawned on a seemingly unstoppable era of dancefloor smash hits, international success, music awards and made musical history in a way no other German dance-pop act had previously achieved.

With “Moonlight Shadow”, the cover version of Mike Oldfield’s classic hit, Groove Coverage conquered the Top 10 of the German charts, soon breaking into the Top 3 and collecting a Gold Award for more than 250,000 records sold together with two nominations for an “Echo” award. “Moonlight Shadow” also climbed the charts abroad becoming a Top 10 hit in Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium and Australia.

The follow-up single “God Is A Girl” was not to be outdone and secured Number 8 in Germany and Austria, a Top 10 slot in Poland and a sensational Number One top spot in China.

It was therefore no surprise that the accompanying debut studio album “Cover Girl” would become a steady seller in the album charts.

It was a seemingly relaxed start to a turbulent year 2002 / 2003 for the newcomers who claimed their only ever goal had been to be invited on to the Clubrotation-TV show on VIVA.

Subsequent years consisted of further worldwide successes and each year they topped the achievements of the previous ones.

In mid-2005 the second album “7 Years and 50 Days” reached the Top 10 in Europe, platinum status in Asia followed and even became the most successful long player of all time in Indonesia.

The single “Poison” reached top chart positions simultaneously in Europe: England, Ireland, Spain, Poland, Russia and even the entire Scandinavian region.

Groove Coverage have been well received throughout the whole of Europe and particularly in the Asian region, they’re well on their way to reaching the pinnacle of success.

Yet more was to come: The single “God Is A Girl” which had already been voted the Number 1 favourite song of the previous decade by “Sunshine Live” radio listeners’ was downloaded legally in China more than 1.5 milion times during 2007, making it by far the most successful song that year in China.

Groove Coverage was invited to appear on the Chinese “Wetten Dass?!” programme. Not only were they the first German guests, they were also some of the very few foreign international stars who had been invited on the show. DJ Novus and singer Mell played to an audience of an extraordinary 580 million (!!!) viewers who voted DJ Novus and Mell as their favourite act of recent times.

Groove Coverage toured successfully in 2007 and 2009 throughout China’s metropolises, filling venues including a sensational live show at the “Bird’s Nest” Olympia stadium in Peking.

In preparation for their 10th anniversary, the single „Innocent“ was released in summer 2010 and it shot right up to Number 3 in the German DJ charts.

In the single charts, the track entered the Top 40 confirming that the loyal Groove Coverage fanbase approved of the band’s fresh 2010 sound.

The follow-up single “Angeline” reached the Top 3 in all the German DJ, club and dance charts and also secured Number 1 for several weeks in the “Musicload Single Charts” and Number 22 in the Media Control sales charts in Germany.

„Angeline“ remained for a full 26 weeks in the Top 50 of the German single sales charts – longer than any other previous Groove Coverage song and the track also had a double entry in the official Austrian Top 30 sales charts.

Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Russia, Spain, Italy, Africa, France, USA, Singapore, Japan, China, Canada, Alaska, Indonesia, Brazil, Estonia & Malta are the main countries in which DJ Novus regularly performs to the masses. These regions have therefore provided him with a demanding international DJ schedule for over 17 years now.

Groove Coverage, and in particular DJ Novus, have landed a total of 14 Media Control chart hits (7 of those in the Top 20!!!). Their great success on the international stage and their enormous and loyal fan base makes them the crème de la crème of the international dance/pop scene and it is hard to imagine the scene without them.

So it comes as no surprise that the band centered around DJ Novus landed a sensational Number 77 position in 2011 when they were officially named “Most successful German Single Act of the Last Decade”. This award covered all genres and the band was named among many other international top acts.
